Covers
Ideas for the covers to Kate and Jays’s books. The black ink on Jay’s colour prints has made the paper curl so didn’t look too good. For Kate’s used Garamond for Jay’s used Times. A4, both going to be in colour. (cut thumb) :(

Summary - Exhibit Newspaper
Late on in the project i was put in touch with a student doing fine art who planned on starting up an art focused newspaper. He required someone to produce graphic design and layouts for the newsprint publication. I again began by working from examples, using newspaper grid structures i had researched. I need to come up with full layout plans for a possible paper.
Steve Searle’s animation of my character design.
Summary - Portfolio/CV
In the same manner that i wished to produce work for Kate and Jay i also had the intention of creating a small book of my own work. CV ideas aren’t yet fully realised. I plan on finishing the idea of a folded C.V. Photobook works as a very simple object that would accompany a larger portfolio and is insignificant enough to be left behind. Need more work on the cover and how...
Summary - Kate and Jay photobooks
When the live project first began my focus was on the Sanctuary newspaper, with the plan of producing graphic design and photography for them. After receiving confirmation that they were interested communication ceased and the project never picked up. After this i had to explore different options for the development of my publishing interests. The idea of producing photography books was agreed on...
Summary - Typography/InDesign development
With the view to improve my practical skills within print, publishing and book design i aimed to work on briefs such as newspapers magazines and books. I understood that my technical capability was pretty low in respect to graphic design and typography and wished to improve this. I began by mainly working from examples of publication i liked. This proved not to be a very good approach. Taking...
Summary - Hamburger Eyes
After identifying an interest in the work of Hamburger Eyes magazine i planned to produce photography work with the intention of submitting it to Hamburger Eyes. Beginning with general subjects i gathered images in the theme of reportage exploring the distinctions between Working class home and wealthier leeds. After this start i found it easier to gather images with more focus and better...
Summary - OK Comics
A development from the conceptual art project was the formation of narrative in the development of a series. In order to create characters within a context i had to develop some kind of context that made it easy to progress into a comic. Using examples of existing comics, including Powr Mastrs i came up with a plan for a small 10 page comic. Need to finalise how many issues would be required and...
Summary - Concept Illustration
One of my briefs for this project was further collaboration work with Steve Searle on Digital Media. This time around i went into the process knowing much better was technically and other information would be needed to best create usable drawing. We decided upon a science fiction concept project that would involve a series of alien creatures, human characters and possibly vehicles. Another aspect...
Folded CV
Doesn’t really work that well and its supposed to have print on both sides, as my name needs to be on it somewhere. The fold lines look messy, thats more to do with needing to crop the paper to the InDesign measurements.

New Brief - Exhibit Paper
Exhibit A newsprint magazine primarily for the purpose of exhibiting unpublished, undiscovered art work from a range of mediums. For example, painting, illustration, photography, instillation and the occasional prose or poems. A large proportion of this work will come from educational institutes, or recent graduates. Although a large section of the target audience will be younger generations, I...
Jate Mior/Kay Paude
Following the failure of my work with The Sanctuary newspaper i had to search out alternative routes to satisfy my typographic, layout and publishing needs. While developing my practical skills and building up industry knowledge for work experience i wished to created printed books for people. These people were Kate Prior and Jay Maude. They requested photo books which left the developing of text...
Dylatov Pass
Using grid guides i’ve been reading up on and formulas for constructing grids i made a little book. Going from the style of Laser Magazine helped me with ideas of how best to communicate the information. The small images at the top of each page fall out of the main text guides. It seemed to work in the magazine so i tried it, making them follow the basic InDesign guide.
Oolite

Butt No.26
‘For all those who’ve been waiting for the new issue of BUTT No. 26: fret not, we’ve got some quite exciting news for you! At this very moment 86 deliciously pink pages of BUTT are being printed in the picturesque city of Bruges in Belgium and will be shipped worldwide in less than three weeks… (below) is a little teaser image of the upcoming issue, as it was pinned up on the wall at...
PhotoFolio Layouts
Using my own images to experiment with layouts. Typography always proves much more difficult than you remember. Used mainly Baskerville and Futura. In reality i don’t think an actual book of my work would have so much writing. Used the text more to just get used to incorporating large amounts within layouts. I think there is something really wrong with the bottom one but don’t...

Gliese 581 for test of font and format
I started by buying an issue of fantastic man magazine, then i loved the layout and font, and then i did this. Working with breaking up text and learning fonts in a better way. A challenge came with trying to work out the font used in the magazine. In the end i settled for Baskervile and Garamond but i believe the font in fantastic man to be Sackers Gothic or Engravers Gothic. Looking now i...
Like these. Looking to produce a publication of my own work or for other people. Hoping to get work for a couple of papers. One already existing and the other new and looking for layout and graphic ideas. Hope to get different things from each of them. Also have in mind the possibility of publishing illustration work in Leeds for sale in a couple of stores. But need to look into that more.

‘Yoji Shinkawa’s design workflow for creating a 3D image from an original drawing’
‘Mr. Shinkawa starts his design process by using a brush to make a drawing. The resulting design is a black and white image drawn in Mr. Shinkawa’s distinctive brush style. Then, one of a number of different methods is selected to embody the black and white image. The original...

Wikipedia Reader →
‘A Wikipedia Reader is ASDF’s first publication. It is too difficult to thoroughly explain in a few sentences so we suggest you click here to read the introduction. To briefly summarize, a diverse group of artists were asked to conduct a Wikipedia search, and then to continue onto other articles through linked words, creating a “string” of ideas. The final form is a reader...
